COLONIE -- A young man is dead after an accident Thursday night in Colonie.

Police say they got the call at 6:30 p.m. for a vehicle into a utility pole on Central Avenue and Arrow Street.  They arrived to find the driver, 21-year-old Jajuan Williams of Albany, dead on impact.

The former Bishop Maginn football player was the only occupant in the car, a 2000 Acura Integra. The car was going eastbound from Schenectady to Albany.

Police say it was a one-car crash, but there may have been another car involved although there was no one else at the scene when investigators got there.

Investigators say speed may have been a factor when the car struck a snowbank, went airborne, and slammed into the pole.  They say airbags deployed but were not enough to save the driver's life. Police don't believe weather was a factor.

The accident remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed the crash, please call the Colonie Police at 783-2744.
