Man killed in Berne accident

BERNE - A man is dead after a Wednesday evening crash in Berne.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says a 34-year-old New Scotland man hit 74-year-old William Kelsey of Berne around 5:00 p.m. on the Delaware Turnpike. Investigators believe Kelsey had struck a deer prior to the accident and was walking in the roadway when he was hit.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are not being looked at as contributing factors but the accident is under investigation. Apple says the New Scotland man is cooperating with the investigation.
