There are 35 police officers and only two of them are women. Police Chief Marc Porter says he's proud of her deserving accomplishment.

Having her serve as detective will bring a new perspective to the force.

"We look at it as an opportunity to have a positive impact with crime victims, especially women crime victims who may not be as comfortable speaking to other male police officers or possibly children [who] for whatever reason may be uncomfortable speaking with a male,” Porter said.

The chief also hopes this inspires other women to pursue jobs in law enforcement.
