Shipping snafu leaves sick dog in limbo

An Amsterdam woman had to take out a loan for the emergency surgery to save her dog, who had a bleeding spleen. As she waited for the spleen to be tested by a lab for cancer, she found out FedEx had lost the package.
Maureen Luci is in a predicament now. That spleen was supposed to tell doctors if her dog has cancer. Now, the spleen appears to be gone and there's no plan for making the dog better.
"Ice" has a goofy smile. The 10-year-old Rottweiler pitbull mix lost a few pounds, but is doing pretty well after a tumor on his spleen burst and he had to be taken into surgery.
"He was wincing in pain every time he tried sit down or turn around and he was panting really heavy and his teeth were chattering," explained Luci, Ice’s owner.
It was relief for Luci when Ice came out okay. Now, she's feeling hopeless again.
Vets sent Ice's spleen to a lab via FedEx to be tested. However, the last place the spleen was seen was in Tennessee. With no lab results, doctors don't have any treatment options.
"There are none, because he may not have cancer," explained Luci. "Even if he does have cancer, we don't know what type, so we don't know how to treat him."
Luci says FedEx has been nice over Facebook Messenger, but hasn't been very helpful.
Luci says the package can keep the spleen safe for six months. However, it's been almost a month and each day is another day Ice doesn't get treatment.
Other tests could help pinpoint a problem, but that would be more money Luci doesn't have.
"I want it to be tested the way it should be tested. These other tests are not going to be definitive like it would be if we could test that spleen and that tumor," explained Luci.
Luci says Ice loves to sit on the stairs. Right now, they're both left sitting somewhere in between surgery and recovery. Ice's spleen missing and his mother's heart aching.
NewsChannel 13 contacted the vet and Fed Ex. Neither got back to us.
Luci says there were samples from other dogs in the package that went missing.
