Fire destroys Berne home

BERNE – A house in Berne was destroyed after fire broke out on Saturday.

It happened around 5 p.m. on Switzkill Road. Fire crews were alerted by neighbors, and arrived to heavy smoke and fire conditions.

They were able to knock it down quickly, but they say the house is a total loss. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, but officials say a family pet was killed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
