Churches in Albany and Troy held a "Gifts for Guns" event Saturday morning. The program offered people a chance to trade in illegal guns for a $150 Crossgates Mall gift card. The guns are taken in no questions asked.

The Victory Christian Church started its program back in 2009 after a young girl was shot and killed on First Street.

“It was heart-wrenching to see that happen to that family and it's a heart-wrenching situation to see innocent kids being shot,” said Deacon William Wakeman of the Victory Christian Church.

When NewsChannel 13 talked to Wakeman on Saturday morning, 10 guns had been collected. Over the years, the church says they've taken more than 400 illegal fire arms off the streets.
