Glen residents band together to protect community

GLEN -- Jason Mormile says his house was hit and he's heard of other break-ins, and he wants to protect the friendly, quiet community he calls home.
The fingerprint powder is still all over a door at the Mormile house in the town of Glen. The family was away last week when the alarm company called. The side door alarm was triggered, and motion sensors in two separate garage bays were set off.
Someone could have gotten almost as far as the door into the house.
"I was fortunate," said Jason Mormile. "I wasn't home. I was fortunate I had an alarm system and the alarm system appears as though it did its job and the people left. But very, very unnerving to think that someone would come into your house uninvited, and possibly while someone was home."
Mormile says he's heard about other break-ins.
"There's been money stolen, I know of some people directly related, not related to me, but in the fire department with me that have had firearms stolen from their house, medication stolen from their house, things of that sort, so it certainly is unnerving, no doubt," he said.
He chose Glen in which to live and raise a family because of its small-town, hometown feel, and he wants to preserve that.
"Most people up until recently in the town of Glen didn't even worry about locking doors. They'd leave a garage door open when they went out for the day. It wasn't even a thought," said Mormile.
He and others are offering a reward for information to catch the burglars.
They're planning a public meeting for people to share information and voice concerns.
"Basically to get a discussion going and get people to talk about it and hopefully, the means to an end would be to stop what's going on. Get enough people talking that maybe somebody's caught for these burglaries or the people are caught for what's going on," he said.
The Glen Crime Concerns meeting is next Wednesday, September 13, at 7pm at the Glen Volunteer Fire Department.
