Glenmont group aids overseas troops

November 25, 2017 06:45 PM

GLENMONT -- Volunteers in Glenmont on Saturday loaded 250 holiday boxes to be shipped overseas.

The boxes contain Christmas cards, snacks, coffee, toiletries and other holiday surprises. Organizers say it's the least they can do to remind our troops how much we appreciate their service.

“I deal with veterans every day and we talk about what it's like to serve overseas during Christmas time and not really know what's going on here. So by sending these boxes we're sending a little piece of home,” said Melody Burns of Battlefield and Beyond.

The event is put on by Battlefield and Beyond, formerly Christmas Cards for our Troops. Last year, they say they collected more than 300,000 cards from the community. This year, they say they shipped out even more.
