Re-arrested Green Island sex offender active on Facebook

GREEN ISLAND - Larry Cusack is the self-proclaimed mayor of Swan Street and he's still reeling after one of his newest neighbors, William Goodman, was charged with menacing a young mother during a hike on Peebles Island just more than a month after his release from prison following a 1992 rape.
"They do their crime and they go out and do the same thing over and over and over again," worries Cusask, a retired Corrections Officer at the Albany County Jail.
Goodman may be behind bars again but in the short time between his release and his most recent arrest, the 42-year-old created two Facebook accounts. One is under Michael Himmler and the other under William Himmler.
"If he's registered with New York State as a sex offender there should be cross referencing on there," says Shannon Brannigan, another neighbor of Goodman's.
Goodman served his full sentence for the 1992 rape. Other than registering as a Level Three Sex Offender, he wasn't living with restrictions, like a parolee. The Facebook accounts are allowed. The New York State Senate passed a bill banning sex offender from social media when a child is involved. The Assembly, however, doesn't have a similar bill and neither body has addressed sex offender social media use when the victim is an adult, a flaw admits Assembly Member John McDonald (D - Cohoes).
"Let's be clear, sex offenders should not be on Facebook trolling for their next victim."
Goodman, or Himmler as he goes by online, has 240 "friends," mostly female, from as close as Albany to as far as Europe.
"They can reach out to the world with the amount of people they can get in touch with on Facebook and Twitter, it's mind boggling," adds Cusack.
Assembly Member McDonald tells NewsChannel 13 he will take a look at the Senate Bill and consider proposing something similar in the Assembly. After NewsChannel 13 alerted the Waterford Police Department about the Goodman Facebook accounts, the Public Safety Commissioner asked Facebook to deactivate the accounts.
