Guilderland man charged with arson

A Guilderland man is charged with arson in connection with a fire Friday evening on Western Avenue in Guilderland.

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (WNYT)- Guilderland police arrested a man and charged him with arson in connection with a Western Avenue fire Friday night.

Jason Candlish of Guilderland is charged with Arson in the 3rd degree and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

Nobody was inside the home at 2360 Western Avenue between NY 146 and Dutch Manor Lane during the fire, according to the Guilderland Fire Department’s assistant chief who said it took two hours to put the fire out.

Candlish was arraigned and sent to the Albany County Jail.

A viewer sent WNYT a photograph of emergency vehicles still at the location Saturday morning. The Red Cross said they were helping one person affected by the fire.

According to Google, the address is home to the M & M Motel. However, the motel is also listed as permanently closed.
