Improvements underway on Schoharie Reservoir

Improvements are underway on Schoharie Reservoir to reduce the flood risk downstream.

A tunneling machine will work on 2,000 feet of subsurface tunnels 182 feet down. The $142 million project is part of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s efforts to strengthen the 90-year-old Gilboa Dam.

It will allow the release of water from the reservoir into Schoharie Creek and mitigate the flood risk for downstream communities.
