Capital Region JCC Maccabi Games getting underway in Albany

CAPITAL REGION -- The Capital Region JCC Maccabi Games begin Sunday and run through Friday.

It's an Olympic style sporting event for Jewish teenagers 13-to-16 years old.

Teams from the U.S., Israel, Canada and Mexico will compete in ice hockey, basketball, swimming, soccer, tennis, golf and baseball at local venues.

The games kickoff Sunday at 7 p.m. with opening ceremonies at the Times Union Center in Albany, featuring a parade of athletes and a torch lighting ceremony.

Tickets for the opening ceremonies are free for Capital Region residents, but you must register online first at
