Notorious escape artist Joel O'Keefe will be out of prison as soon as early next month.

NewsChannel 13's media partners at The Post-Star report the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision agreed to release O'Keefe to a home in Argyle.

Earlier this month, O'Keefe's family told NewsChannel 13 he was being unfairly kept in prison. The family said they had offered multiple places for O'Keefe to live, but parole officers have still said no.

O'Keefe was eligible to walk free back on November 25 if he had a place to go.

O'Keefe became infamous in 1994 when he bolted from the back of an unmarked state police car while on his way to a court appearance in Ballston Spa. At the time, he was facing burglary, weapons and a sex charge. He was on the run for nearly two weeks.
