When John Regan is released from prison three years early, he'll be on the sex offender registry. He's the man who tried to kidnap a Saratoga Springs cross-country star.

Many viewers have expressed outrage through social media that Regan is getting out early and appears headed back to live in Saratoga County.

Regan raped one Connecticut woman and sexually assaulted another before he tried to kidnap Lindsey Ferguson from Saratoga Springs High School in 2005.

Saratoga Springs police say before he's let out in October, Regan will be brought back to Connecticut for a hearing to place him on that state's sex offender registry.

Because New York and Connecticut have a reciprocal agreement, police say Regan will also be listed as a sex offender in the Empire State.

People on the registry have to notify police any time they move. Preliminary plans call for him to be placed in one of the extended stay motels in Malta when he's released October 27.
