At a news conference Thursday morning, investigators pointed out the case is still ongoing.

The victim was identified as 89-year-old Robert Brooks, a World War II veteran who lived most of his life in Fulton County and upstate New York. He was honorably discharged from the military following the war.

A few years ago, Brooks moved down to Arkansas and was living with friends. A few months ago, he came back to Johnstown and then died.

As NewsChannel 13 reported, Brooks' body was stuffed in a suitcase, dumped in the back of a pickup truck and driven 19 hours away. The body was then discovered in a field outside of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Police say it’s unclear how long he had been dead before he was transported from Johnstown to Arkansas.

Brooks' body will be transported to South Carolina for burial. That's where his son lives.
