LATHAM - Kim Comiskey has always wanted to make women look and feel good. It's a dream that began when she was just a little girl.
"As a little girl, I would transform all of my doll's hair," she explained.
The Wyantskill native continued transforming people in high school.
"I did the neighbors' hair and I did their perms and colors and my friends' hair and makeup for the prom – and I thought was fabulous, and they thought I was fabulous," she recalled. "Looking back, I can't believe they trusted me."
The dreamer fancied herself as a hairstylist and actress.
"I wanted to be a cruise director," she explained. "I wanted to be Julie on 'The Love Boat.'"
However, the idea did not go over well with her parents.
"They made me, in a sense, go to college because it was something that none of them did," she said.
Just as her family prepared to watch her walk across the stage, she dropped out.
"A month before graduation, because beauty school was starting up and that's where I wanted to be. I just followed my dream," Comiskey said.
Her dreams began to come true. She got her first job in a salon then focused on getting a job with hair color-giant, Clairol.
"I interviewed with Clairol and fortunately, after many interviews with a large company like that, I was hired," Comiskey noted.
That taught her about business and she soon opened her first day spa.
"I just kept thinking and believing that this would be the area for something like that," she said.
Today, Kimberley's has a new location in Latham. That dream of pampering people continues.
"My mom loves it, because she can have every service," Comiskey joked.
When she's not helping people de-stress, she's helping raise money for kids as the co-chair of arguably the biggest fundraiser in the Capital Region, The Children's Hospital at Albany Med.
Again, she just wants to make people feel good.
"It's just been the most rewarding thing," Comiskey admitted.
