A state corrections officer is accused of defrauding the state Workers' Compensation program out of thousands.
Kristopher Cowan, 29, of Valatie is facing several charges.
The inspector general's office says he stole more than $30,000 by submitting dozens of forged and falsified medical records so he could avoid working, but still get full pay.
Investigators say Cowan filed a claim in 2015 while working at Coxsackie Correctional.
After the incident, he was out of work for less than a week.
A few months later, investigators say he started repeatedly submitting medical documents for time off under workers' comp.
On one occasion, he was on leave for 13 straight months.
Investigators found 34 documents he submitted indicating he was too incapacitated to work, were fake.
