TSA says the .380 caliber gun was loaded with six bullets.

This marks the fifth handgun TSA officers have caught at this checkpoint this year. They caught two guns there last year.

Passengers who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to criminal charges and possible fines of $3,000 for a first offense, all the way up to $12,000.

However, TSA says firearms can go in checked luggage if unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
