Police say Schmidt died of a heroin overdose while partying in a Hudson Hotel. They believe Cotman may have panicked because he was on parole at the time. District Attorney Paul Czajka tells NewsChannel 13 Cotman pleaded guilty on December 21.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 10.
