Man pleads not guilty to sexually assaulting child

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A man has pleaded not guilty in a Vermont court to repeatedly sexually assaulting a child.
The Bennington Banner reports 31-year-old Richard McLauchlan was arrested on a warrant in Pennsylvania this week.
The acts are alleged to have taken place in Bennington between 2015 and 2016 when the girl was 5 and 6 years old. A police affidavit says the girl told an investigator McLauchlan assaulted her several times and that she didn't feel safe near him.
McLauchlan pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in Bennington criminal court to felony repeated aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated sexual assault on a child under 13. A judge held him without bail pending an evidence hearing.
