Martin Luther King Apartments to receive $10M renovation

TROY – $10 million will be spent to rehabilitate the already existing Martin Luther King Apartments.

Details on the project were announced Tuesday. It will be done in two phases. The first will involve gutting six existing buildings.

“We will replace the flat roofs with new pitched roofs, [and] redo completely the shells of the buildings so they are well-insulated, well-sealed and highly energy efficient,” said Duncan Barrett of Beacon Communities Development LLC.

The apartments were built in the 1970s and have been run by the Troy Housing Authority. Other planned renovations include new heating and cooling systems, laundry facilities, and a new accessible walkway with security cameras and blue light phones.
