New sanctuary trail opens at Vanderheyden

Vanderheyden in Rensselaer County is now home to a sanctuary trail.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday morning.

The trail is a natural retreat nestled among the 80 wooded acres of Vanderheyden's property. It's designed to provide a quiet place for people to take a walk, a hike or go biking.

The trail was made possible by more than $14,000 raised by the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge.

Vanderheyden began as the Troy Orphan Asylum in 1833.
