CHARLTON – It’s a trip only rivaled by Santa himself, sending Christmas trees around the world as part of the “Trees for Troops” program.

"We also have members in Kuwait, we have members in Afghanistan, just this past week 225 soldiers in the New York Army National Guard took over a training mission in Ukraine of all places,” said organizer Rich Goldenberg.

Both Jennifer Dippo and John Lawlor were near the back of the FedEx truck that took the pine trees from Ellms Family Farm Monday morning. Both are with the Air National Guard. Dippo has been deployed during the holidays while Lawlor’s father has been gone for many holidays.

"[I’ve] been able to celebrate with trees and gifts that have been sent to us over there and it makes a world of difference in just receiving that cheer in knowing that people are thinking of you while you are there,” said Dippo.

Lawlor: “It kind of hits home in helping out people that need some Christmas spirit while they're away.”
