Police: Coxsackie man dead after driving into Hudson River

COXSACKIE – A Coxsackie man is dead after he apparently tried to escape police by driving his car into the Hudson River during a chase.

State police say 48-year-old Jeffrey Dean was pulled over Friday night on Route 9W. Dean allegedly assaulted the trooper and sped off.

Troopers say they chased Dean to Riverside Park, where he intentionally drove his car down the boat ramp and into the water.

Troopers say he got out and tried to swim to shore, but he didn't make it. Troopers say they tried to get him out, but couldn't. Crews eventually pulled dean's body from the water.
