Possible mumps case at Saratoga Springs middle school under investigation

The health department is investigating a possible case of the mumps at Maple Avenue Middle School in Saratoga Springs.
Parents with children at the school are being told to monitor children for any signs of symptoms of mumps through December 10.
If you notice anything, contact your doctor and the county health department.
Mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus.
Symptoms include swollen or tender salivary glands under the ears or jaw on one or both sides of the face, along with fever, headache, muscle ache and fatigue.
Mumps spreads through saliva or mucus from the mouth, nose or throat.
An infected person can spread the virus by coughing, sneezing or sharing items like cups or utensils.
