Power outage causes new sewage spill in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM - Another day, another sewage spill in the city of Amsterdam.

According to a state Department of Environmental Conservation alert, there was a power outage at the sewage treatment plant.

The outage caused a pump to fail and allowed more than a million gallons of untreated sewage to spill into the Mohawk River in six hours.

This is in addition to the spill of 10 gallons NewsChannel 13 reported on Monday and the spill earlier this year that sent another million gallons into the river.
