December 01, 2017 06:30 PM

Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove says he will not step down after pleading not guilty to his handling of a police-involved shooting. The charges include two misdemeanor counts of official misconduct and one count of felony perjury.

Edson Thevenin was shot and killed by a police officer who says he was defending himself.  Abelove convened a grand jury and the police officer was not indicted. However, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman ordered a new grand jury, also looking at the actions of the district attorney.
