SCHENECTADY -- Proctors Theater is celebrating its 90th anniversary and the birthday of its founder.
Frederick Freeman Proctor was born on St. Patrick's Day back in 1851. He founded the theater in 1926.
For the past several years, the theater has celebrated his birthday with a free public tour. It gives people the rare chance to visit the stage and dressing rooms. It also gives people a chance to learn about the theater's rich history.
"The theater was fabulous back in the Vaudeville days," said tour guide Marilyn Stassi. "It was Mr. Proctor's crown jewel among his 53 theaters across the country. He picked Schenectady to really lavish his money on this theater."
There's also a new coffee table photo book celebrating the theater's anniversary. It's called "Encore: Proctors at 90." If you're interested, you can pick up a copy at the Proctors gift center.
