He tried to hide the body of 21-year-old Halle Schmidt after she died last September at a motel in Hudson.

Police say Schmidt died of a heroin overdose and Cotman panicked because he was on parole.

Schmidt's body was found near Old Post Road in Kinderhook, a week after she was reported missing.
