Rivers Casino and Resort announces partnership with Schenectady ARC

SCHENECTADY – The Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady opens in less than two weeks, and they expect to use 48,000 bottles of water every month.

That equates to about $3,600 a month in bottle deposits. In a partnership announced Thursday, Schenectady ARC will collect, sort, count, and redeem the bottles.

In return, the ARC will get to keep seven and a half cents per bottle.

“Generally what we would normally do is donate the money to charity,” said Scott Clay of Rivers Casino and Resort. “But this worked out great because we're providing the opportunity for people with disabilities to work so it was a win-win all the way around.”

Schenectady ARC says the partnership will save five or six part time jobs at Pine Ridge Industries in Scotia. That's where their bottle redemption program is located.
