Romanian man admits to Capital Region ATM skimming scheme

A man pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing thousands of dollars in the Capital Region using ATM skimming devices.

The Department of Justice says Ilie Sitariu, a Romanian citizen, installed the devices at First Niagara, Trustco and Berkshire Bank Branches.

Affected banks were in Chatham, Delmar and Great Barrington.

Sitariu's was able to steal about $127,000 by gaining access to customers' accounts.

He's due to be sentenced in May.
