Rotterdam Junction train derailment snarls traffic

ROTTERDAM JUNCTION - NYS Route 5S in Rotterdam Junction is closed due to a train derailment encompassing the railroad crossing near the SI Group facility. AII traffic is urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Routs 5S will be closed westbound from the l-890/Thruway Exit 26 interchange. Traffic will be diverted across the Mohawk River to Route 5 in Glenville.

Route 5S eastbound will be closed at NYS Route 103. Vehicles meeting the restricted height/weight criteria will be detoured via Route 103 to Route 5.

Commercial vehicle traffic must access Route 5 via the NYS Route 30/Thruway Exit 27 interchange in Amsterdam.

The closures are expected to last all day Wednesday.

No hazards were reported due to the derailment.
