June 28, 2017 09:14 AM

Russia says it is calling off the search for a missing mountain climber from Catskill.

More than a dozen rescuers have been combing Mount Elbrus looking in crevasses and checking campsites. Steven Beare hasn’t been heard from in two weeks following a storm that swept in while he was climbing the mountain alone.

His wife Olivia, who is also from Catskill, has been trying to raise money and gather volunteers to continue the search.

“There's so much snow and it looks so cold,” said Olivia. “I just can't imagine him sitting out there somewhere.”

Olivia says Steven has excellent survival skills from his days in the Army. You can contribute to the search effort by Steven and Olivia’s family here.
