The Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division is warning people who visit the Sunoco gas station at 127 Erie Boulevard to take a lot at their credit card statements.
Authorities said on Wednesday, March 7 employees from the Sunoco contacted Schenectady Police after finding a possible skimming device inside one of its gas pumps while performing routine service.
Police said an inspection of the remaining pumps revealed a second skimming device.
Authorities said the two pumps that the skimming devices were located in were pump #1 and Pump #3. They said both devices were removed and are currently in possession of the United States Secret Service for analysis.
Schenectady Police said these were high tech skimming devices that were located on the inside of the gas pumps. They said at this time, it is unknown when these devices may have been placed inside the gas pumps.
Authorities said due to that, the Schenectady Police Department is requesting that anyone who may have used those pumps prior to March 7, contact their credit card company and monitor their statements.
If you do discover fraudulent activity on your card, you’re urged to file a police report.
The police department is also requesting that all local gas stations visually inspect both the inside and outside of their gas pumps to ensure they have not been tampered with.
