The Albany cop accused of leaving the scene of an accident is facing increased charges.
Shawn Dixon was in court Friday with his attorney and a PBA representative.
He declined an interview after the proceeding.
Dixon, a 30-year-old police officer of less than two years, was initially accused of leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He's now charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident - a misdemeanor. Dixon pleaded not guilty and the district attorney's request for a no-contact order was denied by the judge.
"I think this is a typical violation of leaving the scene of property damage accident. The current charge is inflated, I think, in large part because he's a police officer," argued Defense Attorney Mike McDermott.
According to Dixon’s attorney, he is suspended without pay. He was not on-duty at the time of the alleged incident.
