Special election to be held for vacant NY state Assembly seats

A special election to fill 11 vacant seats in the New York State Assembly will be held on April 24.

Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Two of the seats are in the Capital Region. Steve McLaughlin gave up his Assembly seat when he won the election for Rensselaer County executive. Pete Lopez vacated his position when he became the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 2 administrator.
