Spotlight shines on small businesses this week

It’s Small Business Week. The first week in May is when The Small Business Administration recognizes the independents. As part of that recognition, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce is spotlighting companies that pride themselves on Looking Local, Buying Local, including the Spinney Group, a Delmar-based real estate developer and property management company.

Chris Oretel, a property manager for the Spinney Group’s Adam Station, says the owners do business with family-owned businesses, because they are a family-owned business.

Oretel says Spinney even does business with some of the residents at its complexes. He discovered a small independent baker called Baked by Maddie who bakes cookies. So he routinely buys treats from her for the residents.
