Local theaters are celebrating a huge funding boost in the new state budget.

A total of $5 million in the 2023 budget will go to Alive Downtowns, an organization which represents 13 upstate cities – including Albany, Schenectady and Troy.

It includes $1 million that will go to Proctors in Schenectady alone. The rest of the money will go to theaters across the state – including the Palace Theatre in Albany and the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
