Thousands of people take part in Troy Turkey Trot

TROY - More than 7,000 runners hit the streets of downtown Troy in the cold before their Thanksgiving meal.  

The Annual Turkey Trot 5K kicked off on Fourth and Fulton Streets at 10 a.m.

Jonathan Aziz of Boulder, Colorado was the first man to finish the 5K. He ran the 3.1 miles in 14 minutes and 57 seconds.

Caitlin Abelseth from Voorheesville won the 5K for the women, crossing the line at 17 minutes and 30 seconds.

There was also a 10K. Anthony Giuliano of Schenectady won that for the men with 33 minutes and 08 seconds and Ivette Mejia of New York City won for the women with a time of 33 minutes and 41 seconds.

In addition, there was a Grade School Mile run.

This was the 70th year of the race. It's one of the oldest Thanksgiving Day races in the country.

Runners donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and Joseph's House and Shelter, Inc.
