TROY -- A local community is fighting back against bullying.

A Box Out Bullying basketball tournament was held at Catholic Central High School on Saturday. The event was held to raise money for a scholarship program for students who want to attend the school after being bullied at other schools.

Former NewsChannel 13 top teacher Lexi Cuomo helped organize the event to help bring a student to the school who had been bullied.

"A lot of the students, when I brought up the issue of the kid being bullied, said they actually experienced it when they were younger, and had a similar connection to it," Cuomo said. "It helped them even more to want to fix the situation and give this kid a shot at a school that treated him the way he should be treated."

The event is also aimed at raising awareness of the issue of bullying, and how to prevent it.
