Virtual reality takes hospital patients to far away lands

A Denver hospital has a way patients can relax while receiving treatment.

Through a partnership between UCHealth and a virtual reality company called Rendever, patients can pass their time virtually traveling to new places.

"There are waves crashing at me. I look around, I see some sand next to me. There's a beautiful island straight ahead and some mountains in the distance," described Hannah Moraski, a patient with a rare blood disease. "The virtual reality is extremely exciting for me particularly, because…I can't travel and I love seeing different places."

"The virtual reality gives me that opportunity to see other things and to almost travel," she continued.

Overall, the hospital says the response to this type of distraction therapy from doctors and patients has been very positive.
