Rafael Nieves Jr. was killed July 10, 2011 in Afghanistan, leaving behind a wife and two children. He was always said to be a protector and that's exactly what he did on that day, saving the lives of the men in his convoy while remaining calm. He was the only one that did not survive. He had a smile that would light up a room. He was a true hero!
