Weed instead of toys delivered to Valatie home

VALATIE – Someone made a mistake, either in shipping and receiving or on the mailing label. Either way, product tester Pamela Marks got the surprise of her life.

"First, I noticed it was two shoebox looking boxes wrapped in black plastic,” Parks said. “What looked to me to be green foam vacuum sealed into a container."

What could be packed inside the green foam? A small collectible toy from, according to the return address, Jakk’s Pacific in Santa Monica, CA, perhaps? Marks thought so. But it was not green foam at all, rather several pounds of marijuana. She called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

"I've never seen anything delivered like this,” she said. “So I took the sharp object and started slitting one of the plastic containers and a big woof of skunk smell came out at me and I was like I knew right then and there that I had the wrong thing.

"I know whoever got the package I was supposed to get is not happy with the product that they got in the mail."

Parks has a blog, MarksvilleandMe.com, where she tests, reviews and evaluates products and shares her findings on social media. She is sent kitchen gadgets, knives, car accessories, family-friendly products, more games than toys.

“This product is not the product it was supposed to be, not in any shape or form,” Parks, a mother of six, told NewsChannel 13. Originally from Copake Falls, she and two of her daughters are living in Valatie for the time being. The package was delivered last Thursday.

The only other time she saw marijuana was when she was a little girl, she said. She is not sure how it came to be sent to her. WNYT-TV reached out to Jakk’s Pacific by calling, e-mailing and via twitter but have not heard back. The company has toys with tie-ins to Disney, Nintendo and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Jakk's Pacific has videos on its website showing its philanthropy.

"I'm sure they still want me to do a product review and what I got I'm sure they do not want me to do a product review on,” Parks said.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Department seized the pot and is now investigating.
