State budget gap poses challenges for lawmakers

ALBANY - This year's budget will be a tough one for the governor and lawmakers. They have to contend with a big budget gap.

On top of that, the federal government may keep about $2 billion.

There are also some issues with state tax receipts coming in lower than expected. That could add an additional $1 billion to the gap.

It all adds up to a $4 billion to $8 billion budget gap.

While this year's State of the State included a wish list of big aspirations and things that the governor wants to see, we'll see in about a week the reality of how it can or will all be paid for.
