SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - New York Republicans have selected a private equity executive and party fundraiser to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this fall.

Chele Chiavacci Farley was selected Friday by state party leaders meeting in Saratoga Springs. Farley now has the Republican and state Conservative Party lines for the Senate race.

Farley has little public name recognition and would face a Democrat with broad appeal in New York state. Gillibrand received 72 percent of the vote in her last election, in 2012, against Republican Wendy Long.
