McLaughlin declares victory in Rensselaer County executive race

Republican Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin has declared victory in the primary race for Rensselaer County executive. However, his opponent, Chris Meyer, says he's not giving up yet.

At last check, McLaughlin was ahead by about 340 votes. However, there are more than 300 absentee ballots to be counted.

The winner of the Republican primary for Rensselaer County Executive will face Democrat Andrea Smyth and Green Party candidate Wayne Foy in November.

The present county executive, Kathy Jimino, decided not to run for a fifth term.
