ALBANY - State Senate Democrats announced a package of legislation they say will help prevent gun violence.

NewsChannel 13's Jerry Gretzinger was at the Capitol when Senate Democrats walked through nine different bills. Among them, the "Children's Weapon Accident Prevention Act," which would make it a crime to not securely store a gun and keep it safe from kids.

Another bill would allow courts to seize or prohibit the sale of firearms to anyone found to be at risk of causing harm to others or themselves. Family members or law enforcement can petition a court and present evidence towards that. Bill sponsor, Senator Brian Kavanagh, says it would be the same process by which courts currently determine whether to civilly confine someone.

Another bill calls for the prohibition of bump stocks in New York State.
