Should the Yankees bring back Matsui

How can the Yankees not bring back their World Series MVP? The answer is, very easily. As good as Matsui was in the World Series, the Yankees can't use him in the outfielder anymore, and he is not getting any younger. GM Brian Cashman is very careful when it comes to resigning aging players, for a lot of money. It's very unlikely Matsui will be back with the Yankees in 2010, but he won't soon be forgotten, that's for sure.

Yankees will win game six

Yankee fans don't need to panic, and here's why. Andy Pettitte always comes up big in the postseason, and he will again on Wednesday night, even on short rest. He needs to get through six, have Joba Chamberlain pitch the seventh, and then have Rivera close it out. I don't expect Pedro Martinez to pitch as well as he did in game two. Yankees wrap up their 27th World Series title on Wednesday night. It could be a high scoring game six, but the Yankees will prevail.

Manuel deserves some credit

When you talk about great managers in Major League Baseball, Charlie Manuel's name does not come up, but maybe it should. Manuel has a low-key approach, his players respond, and the Phillies are back in the World Series. Best move Manuel made so far in the postseason was not giving up on Cole Hamels and Brad Lidge.

Sanchez plays like rookie

If Mark Sanchez is the Jets franchise quarterback, he needs to start playing like it. What bothered me the most watching him on Sunday, was his lack of confidence. He looked like a player, who just wanted to leave the playing field and head for the lockeroom. There will be better days ahead, but he needs to show me a little more toughness.

Kevin Broadus can't stay

Binghamton basketball coach Kevin Broadus was given an indefinite paid leave of absence Wednesday, but he should be shown the door. Former Georgetown coach John Thompson can come to his rescue all he wants, but Broadus embarrassed the university and should not be allowed to return next season, no matter what the price tag.

Leave Joba in the bullpen

When the Yankees huddle this week to map out their pitching rotation for the ALCS, they should leave Joba Chamberlain right where he is at, and that's coming out of the bullpen. CC Sabathia, with an extra day off, should be able to pitch games one and four, so it's not that big of a deal. But just for the record, Joba's days as a starter should be over. He is much better served out coming out of the bullpen. Agree?

Dodgers vs Yankees, a dream matchup for the Fall Classic

Joe Torre has the Dodgers into the NLCS and one step cloer to the World Series. What a story line it would be if it's the Dodgers against the Yankees in the Fall Classic. The Yankees shoved Torre out the door, and you know he would like nothing better than to beat his former team. It may not happen, but if you want big ratings, high drama, that's the dream matchup to root for

Manning should sit vs the Raiders

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin does not need Eli Manning on Sunday to beat the Oakland Raiders. I would not play Eli, and instead let him rest his injured heel and get ready for a showdown the following week at undefeated New Orleans. Manning has made 82 straight starts----and that's a great streak---but if you're looking at the bigger picture, he needs to sit.

Valentine is looming

Bobby Valentine is not back with ESPN because he wants to be on TV, he is back because he wants to manage again. He wants to manage the Mets again, and he puts himself in great position. If manager Jerry Manuel and the Mets don't come out of the gate winning next season, watch the Wilpons reach for Valentine. That's a very likely scenario.
