MAAC tournament gets underway in Albany

ALBANY - The MAAC is back.

The MAAC men's and women's basketball tournaments tip off Thursday at the Times Union Center and run through Monday.

The first game of either tournament is on the women's side. Canisius and Monmouth get underway at 9:30 a.m.

The Siena men's basketball team opens tournament play Thursday at 7 p.m. against Quinnipiac. Siena is the 10th seed in the men's tournament.

The Siena women's basketball team doesn't play until noon Saturday against either Saint Peter's or Niagara. The third-seeded Saints have a first-round bye in the women's tournament.

The winner of both the men's and women's tournaments receive an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.

In addition to all the games, several special events are planned. Those include a college fair, a band jam, and a a mac-n-cheese fest.
