Gold medal skier with Capital Region ties now World Cup champion

An Olympic gold medal skier with family in Berkshire County and Albany is now a World Cup champion.

Mikaela Shiffrin clinched the title in her home state of Colorado. She lives there but visits this area whenever she can.

Her mother grew up in Lanesborough and still has family there. They also have family in Albany.

Shiffrin joins Phil Mahre, Tamara McKinney, Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn as the only Americans to win the overall World Cup Championship.
